All the Fuss Dress

All the Fuss Dress

I am inspired! Are you?

An eventful lovely weekend!

I am blessed with being a mother hen! It also comes with many sacrifices as anyone would know.  It is a challenge of balancing, life, home, and the in between.

I think it is essential to give that time to yourself, and every member of the family.  We should partake in a balance of happy recreation sometimes, togetherness, and alone time to reflect.  That is my time to assess myself, my days, get more inspiration, and keep my creative juices flowing.  It almost seems like when you have a family and having a business based with a home studio, it is somewhat impossible to balance a routine.  It is the moment I establish a schedule, it seems to somewhat change - on its own.  I have to see the humor in these changes and go with the flow.  As wives & mothers it is simple to take on the natural role as head honcho or the Tribe Leader.  Despite the times changed in society, everyone will run to the woman, right down to being the "missing sock lo-jack".

However, It took me really long to realize that the role is a gratifying role.  Seemingly a natural one for a strong feisty character like myself. It could be my Irish Roots.  I have no idea, but I am going to really reassess myself and the role, I may be underestimating myself when taking the  1930's Quiz For Husbands and Wives .When I have some more time, I am going to re-exam, and give myself a little more credit and not take the questions so literally.

Why am I saying this?  There was a time when a McCall's Easy Dress Pattern would take no time to construct.  With house, work, family, I put my talents in the backseat. Sometimes I think I should describe them in the trunk, not backseat, and it is a hot sunny day and they are melting back there. I am not going to let that happen.  I am sewing and making my sewing and artistic side a bit more of a priority.  It is my peaceful time, and to be honest, I need that to be balanced and happy. So, what am I getting at? Sewing and being creative is my time. It really helps me put things in perspective.  I have been working on a couple of things, as you know from my previous posts.  Quite enjoyable, but at first I felt like a stranger in my own domain.

The lack of sewing slowed my skills down greatly.  I am not proud of this but, it is not like riding a bike.  You are not steady and still and question your abilities when you take too long of a break.  Whereas, at one time I was "one" with my machines and my area in the physical sense had changed since I moved and actuallly have a REAL SPACE to be thankful for and to call my own! I love it and I must be more creative and MAKE THIS TIME FOR ME.  I missed making my own clothing and creations.

I got the dress sleeves and began the hem before dinner. I also completed what needed to top stitched.  I left my hand sewing for last, as loath to hand sew at times.  All is well and I also need to make a belt for it.  Which I am contemplating if choosing something a little thicker than the belt that is there is okay with the dress.

How do I dress? I like vintage inspired or vintage clothing that looks stylish.  I do not want to appear as if I am wearing a costume from the era.  I looked at this and thought a thicker obi type - possible cummerbund and add a little character to dress.  Hopefully alleviating what  I am considering a little nurse type look it has going on.  I have more of a style that takes a Mod Cloth, Victoria's Secret, and a lot of Diane von Furstenberg, Versace, Gucci, and you put it into a blender with vintage twist and there I am!  WOAH, You can say it, HolY BLEEP...Let's be ladies!

I say Victoria's because I like the styles that are closer to my shape.  I am an inspiration sponge when it comes to Versache, Mod Cloth, Gucci, and Diane.. I am an inspiration sponge with anything. But, I look to these designers for inspiration.

The dress is almost Finished... AS THIS POST WAS WRITTEN OVER 2 DAYS...

I have to work on the belt and then we will give it whirl! See what it looks like on.  As a matter of fact, I am thinking I have to see it on to get the inspiration for the belt type as that is where I am going to add my signature and character.

I somehow went on walks, cleaned just about everything in my house, and got this dress slowly fitted into my crazy busy schedule! And a blog! and orders! Toodles!  This was the dress on Sunday Night

Ansury- Deal Lake, Coast Guard Drill

Already exciting here in New Jersey! I was making lunch, back from the post office, contemplating my afternoon... IT IS SUPER SUNNY and NOT TOO HUMID.   So, in the midst of making my Roasted Pepper and Cherry Tomato on Crusted Multi Grain Bread - ( all locally grown and Baked) I heard this outrageous noise.  The sound was coming from the beach.  Loud and Intense.  I peeked through my sheers in my living-room to see this:
It was an amazing sight! Right there! I decided to be a little nosey and go and investigate the exciting loud noise and unusual sight.  On my way there, armed with my camera; i began to get a little hesitant.  I noticed that the surfers were weaving the shoreline, and I was not going to take a tragedy to be a photo opportunity.  As a matter of fact, the thought of one of my loved ones lost in the shore, and being swallowed on a sunny day to a wild ferocious ocean sickened me.  I almost turned around, thinking I will hear about the terrible news on TV, more likely in my local paper. Then I realized the Helicopter was just bobbing a little like it was a drill, and it stroked my curiosity and I decided to forget my gut and go gawk.  I was glad I did.  It was a wonderful sight.  It was still noon, so the beach was not popping like the usual last weeks of August.  The water which is amazing, grand, and being a person who lives this close to the beach, you realize that you are very small on the grand scheme of things.  As a matter of fact the helicopter and the men in who do this huge service to us people who want to test nature and dip in the ocean are small like a pebble on the beach, however the work and courageous job they do is beyond any definition of Large compared to the universe.  But, we are meaningful to each other as humans, and no matter how small we seem compared to the size of the world we are important to someone someplace.

See how a simple thing like watching a helicopter rescue drill on my local beach can make become all profound.  Life is so precious.  Standing there like every single day, I look at the place I live, I may be in a small home surrounded by wealth and homes that are so huge, and seasonally occupied. I feel so lucky to be here. In this city with a rich historical foundation.  To be a year round resident here brings me a sense of pride that is far beyond my imagination as I watch my city and surroundings grow almost on a daily basis.  I like change, perhaps I should say I am person who loves change, I love to see it experience it and feel it.  That is why this is the place for me!

The afternoon is going to consist of a little bit of enjoying my yard.  Soaking up some rays and then I will finish up my dress. Since I am feeling so accomplished, I shall enjoy myself, along with my family.  Happy Saturday.

FYI, Going back many many posts, I have recently graded something and taped the process and took some photos, this way I will have my own tutorial on my site - for my site.

Plums in the AM, Shipping and I am a peach!

"Look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress."
Coco Chanel

There it is in a nutshell! Today I have the international shipments! I have to run! I just wanted to check in with a Coco Quote!  I love her dearly.  On a very personal level, her story amazes and to say the least it inspires me.

I got tired last night and sat down and indulged in some Saturated FAT!!! So disgusted with my chip excursion.  Joe (my husband) better stop bringing this stuff home! I have never really ate his muchies but it had to be hormones, greese, something bad calling me to eat that stuff.  I started my day with a big old glass of water, and a plum! A fresh start!

Wish me luck on my simple seersucker dress.  Lets hope I am not a sucker for loosing the lining! In addition, I hope the darts make me look shapely and sexy!

File:7163.jpg - Vintage Sewing Patterns

File:7163.jpg - Vintage Sewing Patterns:
What I am sewing this evening.  I got my overlock machine to work! YAY! It is about time.. I really wanted a dress that is cute with heels, perhaps with anything, and easy to wear.. and will show off my really hot body!! (joking!) Seriously, it is not as fitted as I had imagined by looking at illustration (A. I hopefully will make up for it with some back darts.

It will be cute.  I am so short. No matter how much I shorten these patterns on their indicated lines, I wind up with a maxi dress.  All jokes aside. I am hoping it is as adorable as I am imagining it.  I did not line it since this summer is sweltering and beyond any definition of HOT! I own an arsenal of half and full slips, like all ladies should, so it should all work out!

Fabric choice:  Striped Blue and White Seersucker Cotton
Optional Lining: Opted Out, since it is a summer dress.
Ease of Pattern so Far: Super fun, and my sewing time was long over due.

Which reminds me, I have made a few pieces over the past couple of months and failed to post them.  As I have been purchasing other handmade items from other artisans, I am much more confident in my skills. With the Grand Opening of my Pattern Store I will be more forthcoming with my creations because I know I am damn good! LOL! Just Kidding, there is always space to learn and grow, especially in the huge world of dressmaking.

Next, I want to use my Bishop Book with a Bishop Style Advance Pattern.

As someone who sells reused patterns and deals with everything vintage, well almost.. everything. I found this book." Do It Gorgeously: How to Make Less Toxic, Less Expensive, and More Beautiful Products" It is a really good read.  Like I should be reading when all I want to do is get the tension situation straight on my one overlock machine at the moment, (PRIMAL SCREAM!) but it is how I wind down and it works.  This is a subject that truly interests me and it really makes me happy because it was not too long ago I was telling you guys how I love my Bobbi Brown.  Which I am hoping are green products! I reuse my glass jars, I try to reuse anything possible and rescue anything possible from the dump without risking my own home looking like a dump itself.

There is a fine line! It is called sanity, and finding the best balance and clean life when it comes to living green is where it is at.  Am I the only one who saw Spiderman here? LOL Just kidding, but, we have to look out for each other these days. "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility?" With catastrophes plaguing the Earth almost by the minute,  it is a human duty to spread the word to each other and keep each other in the know.

This is a read that is right up our alley ladies! Sewing, artsy, craftiness, thriftiness.. It is in our blood not to mention, I am sure we all do it with elegance, style, and spunk!

To be clear, Do It Gorgeously isn’t a green shopping guide. It’s a green DIY guide, which means the beauty section’s filled with recipes and mixing instructions for cleansing creams, eye gel, makeup remover, deodorant, and more. To mix up and concoct your own beauty products, you have to know the functions and benefits of every ingredient — which Sophie lays out without false promises in easy to get detail.
Read it, and you’ll find out once and for all what “anti-aging” ingredients actually might help defy age and if retinol is worth paying for. That knowledge will help you whether you decide to go shopping at a drugstore or to try your hand at concocting your own. Hey, who knows, you may even want to Etsy that concoction for Christmas!
That’s just the first chapter! Do It Gorgeously goes on to attack everything from your closet taking us back to the basics, you know the stuff Grandma taught us! This How to book focuses a little on every area of your home, life and living routine right to your your apartment balcony garden, showing you easy DIY options to save money while having fun and being Earth Conscience. These are some simple things that include real elementary simple directions for sewing a blind hem ( we know that!), creating a DIY boot rack to make shoes last, and making simple yoga pants out of extra-large T-shirts.

Crazy Darning Kick

I was on this really crazy Darning Needle kick a couple years back and came across the photos of the work I did and decided to post the work I did.  It was a mixed media of painting, and I did the outlines with some dark thread with the machine.  This is not as nearly as brilliant as it is in real life - as I used some iridescent sparkles, glass beads, sequins, and paint. It seems over the top. The patches were used for home decor applications. My theory is, you cannot go wrong with a pillow! But, you can definitely be caught with an ugly purse.
